Irresistible Croissants | Bread and Beyond

What makes Croissants so Irresistible?

Croissants, with their flaky texture and buttery flavor, have rightfully earned their place as one of the most beloved pastries across the globe. The word "croissant" comes from French, which means "crescent". This is because the shape of a croissant resembles a crescent moon. Croissants are often associated with France, but as it turns out, they’re not as French as most people think.

Contrary to popular belief, they were first made in Austria, not France. The ‘kipferl’, a crescent-shaped sweet made with nuts and other fillings packed inside a flaky bread, played a significant role in inspiring the creation of the iconic croissant. August Zang, an Austrian officer, opened a bakery in Paris in 1839 and started serving ‘kipferl’ which eventually got modified into the croissant as we know it.

A Perfect Crunch

From the very first whiff of their irresistible aroma to the sight of their perfectly golden, flaky layers, croissants have the unparalleled ability to leave you wanting more.

But what truly sets an exceptional croissant apart from the rest is the crunch… A perfectly baked, buttery puff pastry with an irresistible crunch in every bite is an absolute winner. But  achieving that level of perfection is no simple task. Baking the perfect croissant, the kind you’d get at Bread & Beyond, demands a skillful hand and a mastery of the dough-making process.

Croissants have a delicious flavor that combines sweet and savory flavors. These delectable pastries pair well with a wide range of flavors, making them incredibly versatile and satisfying. From luscious chocolate and fruity jams to savory cold meats and cheeses, the pairing possibilities are endless. Enjoy this classic combination by creating a mouthwatering ham and cheese sandwich, packed between two slices of flaky croissant. The contrast of the warm, ooey gooey cheese with the buttery croissant creates a symphony of flavors that no foodie can resist.

One of the best characteristics of the classic croissant is its portability. These light and airy pastries are incredibly convenient to eat, making them a handy on-the-go treat. Pair them with a piping hot cup of coffee to kickstart your day, or enjoy them alongside a refreshing glass of orange juice for a delicious breakfast experience. The magic of croissants lies in their delightful layers, which provide a satisfying crunch with every bite. This textural sensation adds an extra dimension to the already-irresistible flavor profile.

So, experiment with different fillings and toppings. Slather them with butter, generously drizzle them with chocolate, or spread them with sweet jams. For a nutritious breakfast option, stuff them with scrambled eggs, sausage, and cheese.

But that’s not all. You can choose from a variety of our buttery, flaky croissants or sticky sweet danishes, including mini chocolate croissants, premium butter croissants, strawberry custard danishes, and nut strudel danishes, among many others. Which one will you try first?
